14 days til MY birthday!

today I am full of thanks for:

time to rest on a foggy day
lightening up
feeling like I can still be active and knowing when to stop
not feeling guilty about taking care of myself
the unpredictable turns that life takes
abundant opportunities to learn how to surrender

Snowy Monday

glad we didn't get pummelled by snow as predicted

incredibly grateful for the chance shot of my birth...imagine being born to parents in the Congo or Darfur

for soul sisters and mothers; my friend Stephanie and laughing like we always have even when 6 years have gone by since our last visit...it means so much to have like minded people in my life even if they are all far away.

modern medicine is amazing

that my friends still love me when I suck at staying in touch, conveying their importance to me, and being that warm and squishy friend you can depend on...thank you!

today I'm grateful:

that I didn't go into labor last night, or today
that I was able to do yoga today and that I was the furthest along/most pregnant person there for the first time!
for my beautiful home
that I can feel my body getting ready
that I will hopefully have time to do a cast of my belly tomorrow
for time to relax
that Amy's water broke and by this time tomorrow her little girl will be OUT!

Romantic weekend getaway to reconnect with my husband

The state of Vermont...so close and yet so far

rain...instead of snow

sappy movies that allow me to cry, feel compassion and release so that I don't do it other places, like work, where it is not so acceptable.

friday yeah friday yea

i'm so glad it's friday. it's been a long week. productive, and tiring....

today i'm grateful for:

a weekend full of plans, and time to chill too

weekly paychecks that are chunky enough to save for leaner times (and upcoming expenses)

realizing that i actually DO like doing massage...just not for a living, but rather for the right person/s - i'm also grateful that i will receive my 1/2 of the massage trade that started last night next week!

not feeling sad or empty

taking care of myself in the best way i know how right now

Thursday, January 10, 2008

if only it were friday!

plans to go to dinner and see a show tomorrow night and shake my bootay.

continued ability to save with my "aggressive savings plan".

supplements.

chicken salad and curry vegetables.

Wednesday, January 9, 2008

yea!

my boss...who wants me to heal in time for my vacation!
my husband...who will take good care of me
my colleagues ...who will pinch hit for me
my mother who was right all along as mothers often are

a seat on the bus...even if i was squished btwn two men who took up more than their fair share of space

my big fuzzy cozy sweater-coat in this freezing office

once again, my recommittment to the gym

a night to do nothing later...i will cook for myself and chillax, maybe even paint my nails

my new aggressive savings strategy: week 2, and $400 saved!

not buying things that i CAN just because, and not being a complete spend thrift
either.

hanging out with people who get me, and let me be my true self...warts and all.

my new dishes, which allow me to throw away the old chipped ones that were making
me feel poor.

still working at TSI, i can't believe it, and i hope it continues...better get
ready. (sorry this is repetitive, but i am truly grateful for this job...even when i don't like it so much).

what am I grateful for?

  • flexibility
  • unstructured time so I can rest when I need to
  • relationships that weather distance
  • Pete's dark, smiling eyes and his patience

laptop with 9 hour battery

rainbow foods

warmth

sweet words from my sweetie

friends supporting friends
i'm grateful for this rainy weather...mostly because we need it, and because it's a time when i can feel GOOD about being cozied up inside my apartment...i wish i were there right now!

i'm grateful that i'm not a noisy person without regard for others around me. same goes for being grateful that i'm a person who is aware of others in my surroundings (more often than not...i mean, c'mon, nobody's perfect ;)

i'm grateful for my iPod, even though it's pretty damn anti-social.

i'm grateful for not falling into old patterns...something i seem to be battling on a daily basis, and most days, on a recurring basis.

i'm grateful for feeling full and not overeating to fill a void...let's hope it lasts a long long time!

initiative

stones, pebbles, whathave you...just knowing that now I can do something about it

my initiative ...in my own health care...in my job...in my relations; everything I have achieved is directly related to my doing it myself, yes with help, but the initial actions must happen internally

my partner, my friends, and even my family and learning what I can and cannot rely and expect from them

fire...to keep me warm, cook my food, and fuel my spirit

I am thankful daily, especially each morning, for my resolve over my nicotine addiction

Learning to let go of old habits and issues and striving for a better being

Learning to love my company and what I need to be a better compatriot at home and work and life

For friends and chosen family...i'm even grateful for the unchosen family, chosen before I was born for the lessons I continue to forge

For the optimism of a new year, of beginnings...may we remember that throughout the year while in the midst of numerous endings and evolutions

INpossible

the best thiing for me about the year turning is the possibilities the new year holds. when we can all dream about how to create the life we really want, making space for new things and letting go of the old things that no longer serve us.

I am grateful for:

the possibilies of change
knowing that it is possible to re-lose the weight (a tried and true new years sentiment!)
honoring what works
continuing to let go of what does not work
knowing that i have enough and that i AM enough

again - happy new year to you all.
be safe.
be grateful.
be love.

I'm grateful for a doctors appointment, finally.

I'm grateful for lessons taught to me by my parents...no, they couldn't get them all but at least when I eat people don't hear me two rooms away....gross...so maybe I'll work on being less judgemental in the next year.

everything changes

i'm a really in process of focusing on the good things, and letting go of things that no longer serve me. it sounds so easy. it's a process and there's lots of change to deal with through it all...

so today i'm grateful for:

friends that invite me
puppies and kitties
knowing i CAN make changes
acting with integrity
being TRUTH

Learning

a reminder that all relationships require constant work to be worthwhile and that its pursuit pays huge dividends

friends that keep me laughing

tears, all of them; for pain, sorrow, sentimentality and joy

learning to lose expectation

for knowing that I am not poor in health or in riches and that there are so many others with struggles far greater than mine will ever be

oh and lastly for not using the excuse of a fight to run to nicotine!

beat up

today i feel like ranting and raving. i feel beat up by things. instead, i'm gonna dig and see where there is gratitude. that is, afterall, the practice...and i know it works, so...here goes...

gr8full 4:

work - i know i keep saying this, but it looks like it's drying up...i hope i can eek out some more time here and stash some dough away.

warmth - i've been cold all morning and i'm finally warm...ahhhh.

my friends - all of the people that care about what i'm going through, even if it's the same story, different day.

that's it for now.

Wednesday, December 19, 2007

today i am grateful for

the ongoing connectedness with my longest/oldest friend colin. last night we spoke on the phone for over two hours. it's amazing to me to feel so connected to someone i haven't even seen in almost 14 years. our paths have been so different, and yet, when we speak (infrequently at best), it is obvious that we are connected. i'm very grateful for her friendship in my life.

movies to watch tonight...didn't watch them last night b/c i was on the phone for almost four hours!

arm warmers - that keep me warm in this chilly office. turn up the heat people!

cards in the mail - a reminder that i am loved.

broccoli, because it is the bomb ;)

staying warm

and i'm grateful for that. i'm also thankful for:

sweetness, when it appears in my life, usually in ways i don't expect, which is, well...sweet!

movies arriving at my house today and dinner already made, just needs heating.

invitations, even if/when i can't make it.

choices, because they are always what we have, even when we can't see that.

warm sweaters.

being ballsy/having chutzpah...and all the people in my life who genuinely appreciate that in me.

Rain!

thank you for the wonderful rainy day!

I'm grateful to have a partner who isn't consumed with holiday madness.

I'm grateful for all of the beautiful Christmas lights!

I'm grateful for having enough money to get what we need and I'm grateful for all of the assistance that is out there when I need it.

I'm grateful for my health.

I'm grateful for having a little bit of wisdom about some things.

HOLIDAZE

yes i like snow; even if I become a snow widow...thanks for all of it and the recharge to our aquifer!

The miracles of modern science and the real miracle of antibiotics ...if we don't screw ourselves by overprescribing it!

For being old (and wise?) enough to not take the passive aggressive guilt-tripping comments that get directed my way...may I refrain from doing that to others.

For two weeks smoke free. Blessed be.

To new families and creating your reality...it really is possible to make the life you forsee.

that my friend robin is doing great after her surgery last week, and that i will get to see her and love on her tomorrow.

the weekend! this week was tiring, even though i only worked three days. looks like next week will be busy and full. i'm very grateful for the lasting work and weekly paychecks.

sweetness: i like and love you the way you are, so many people do. you are awesome. don't lose sight of that!

a need to be grateful

sometimes I have to force myself to be grateful; when things feel strange and when I feel like the outsider. today didn't start out that way, but it sort of morphed into one of those days.

thank you for days when I feel connected.
thank you for all of the people who love or like me the way I am.
thank you for people who don't judge me.
thank you for helping me to remember that I had a family who loved me and that even when I feel alone, I'm not.
thank you for more time.

i'm grateful that my laundry is done and that that my building had radiated heat. that i will sleep in clean crisp sheets tonight. i'm pre-grateful for the hot yummy smelling bath i'm going to take as soon as i finish watching the soprano's finale. i'm grateful that my friend robin is doing okay after surgery that i didn't even know about until i received an email from her sister whom i do not know. i'm grateful for work tomorrow and probably the rest of the week, even though i know it will probably cause me odgida like usual. i'm thankful for this 3rd four day weekend which feels luxorious, even when i can't see it through the boredom it sometimes causes. i'm grateful i feel at peace.

living in gratitude

I am grateful that I live in a place with tons of resources and things to do if one desires a diversion or needs help.

I am grateful that I got to see my baby today and that being 40 doesn't have much to do with being healthy - I am learning that age is an arbitrary number and health is much more individual than that.

I am grateful for the yummy pho I had for lunch.

I am grateful for all of the compliments I received today.

I am grateful for the delicious chicken dinner that was made for me.

Sunday, December 2, 2007

windy gray sunday

Today I am oh so grateful for all of our fantastic friends who showed their support at our baby shower! I am sorry I didn't get to spend more quality time with everyone but it was fun to connect with everyone at the same time in my new home and to open all those presents! I truly felt the love and it was awesome! Thanks!

I'm grateful to Jen for being such an awesome friend/party planner/organizer/hostess/cook/and everything else I haven't mentioned. Thank you!

I'm grateful to Pete for spending so much time cooking, cleaning and hosting the party and for not buckling under the general stress of becoming a father. And for letting people know how he feels.

I'm grateful that everyone played so well together.

I'm grateful for having the opportunity to see people I haven't spent time with in a while and for meeting new people.

I'm grateful for the prenatal yoga community that I am beginning to connect with and for the teacher who told me to have more fun.

I am grateful to have time to myself sometimes.

I am grateful for friends.

I am grateful that sometimes I have the ability to be objective.

I am grateful that I am learning.

turkey thanks & forgiving

I woke up feeling the need to forgive today. I will start by forgiving myself. Nuff said.

I am grateful for:

good friends, old friends, new friends...the whole lot
a drama-free turkey day with the "in-laws"
a warm, cozy, clean home - I appreciate all of my man's efforts to keep it this way
reminders - someone told me yesterday one of the keys to good relationships is to picture the person (mate, parent, friend, whomever) at their ultimate best self and always keep that picture in mind, even when you are feeling otherwise. I am grateful this was shared with me - a new thing to strive for and wouldn't it be just wonderful if people walked around assuming the best of each other rather than being judgemental?

I had another thought that has to do with worry. I find myself worrying about people I'm close to from time to time yet I absolutely hate it when people worry about me. I think it might be a better use of thought power, energy and "worry time" to picture people at their best and cloak them in light and positive thoughts.

I'm grateful I have a safe place to come home to every day.

giving thanks

today i feel grateful for sleeping in and lounging about. for the day of more of that, with way too much food. and so therefore, i'm grateful for stretchy pants.

thanks to all the people out there that i love, who love me, and even some of them who don't.

for taking time and figuring stuff out.

i'm thankful that i have the things i need to be comfortable, warm and safe.

and thanks to all of you for this practice.

groovy and peaceful gobbling!

is that all there is?

I'm grateful that an old friend decided to look me up and as a result I will have access to all my high school friends I've lost touch with. If he had done it a month later it never would have happened. And now if I ever move to MA, I will have tons of friends...and more people to visit.

I'm grateful I have a home when so many others don't.

I'm grateful I have friends who can remind me that I'm still the same person when every day feels like that person is slipping further away.

I'm grateful for every ounce of sleep I get.

I'm grateful for my determination and I'm grateful for the people who encourage me to do and be more.

Slowing Down

Thank you for letting me slow down...for putting on my sweats and staying in them all day, for knitting again and watching t.v. - sometimes it really is more than just dumb but relaxing too.
Thank you for the great times with new friends before their health battles begin
Thank you for the upcoming four days off. Time to recouperate, time to play, time to reflect and time still to flitter about...
Well I am in the land of Thanksgiving; I shall try to be more thankful for all of the beauty, friendship and discovery this place has given me.
Thank you for the first snowflake today; it is good when seasons remain somewhat intact...

right now i'm grateful

i'm grateful that my work day is more over than not over...sheesh, it's been a stressful beginning to a short week - deadlines'll do that!

for knowing that i can stay on track if i keep my mind focused on that

for my cool new sunglasses...just what i needed (um, yeah, probably not, but i love'em!)

for the upcoming four day weekend...ah, four glorious days off!!

for setting my boundaries in more than one situation and sticking to them and knowing that i'm taking care of myself in doing so

is it friday yet?!?!

today i'm grateful:

that sarah, the annoying/whistling/humming/tapping girl who sits in the cubicle behind me is gone for two weeks.

for being good at my job and being given more responsibilities while the production supervisor is away (not sarah!) - can you believe this job, now at week 14 was a 2 day contract?!

for sleeping so soundly...i really needed it.

for giving myself a break and not beating myself up for exhibiting old behaviors while i change and continue to move forward into the new me.

for not smoking cigs (almost 4 weeks now), barely smoking pot, and hardly even drinking...my body's like, "What the....?!" ;)
(i'm not giving up pot and booze...just haven't really been indulging).

no glamour no glory

I have no idea what that means...

I am grateful for healthy leftovers, that I don't have to work while I'm pregnant, that I can't log in to see whether my stock has crapped out cuz my computer with the password hasn't been hooked up, for some lazy days, for my health, that my boyfriend doesn't want me to be a skinny girl, that he gives me nice compliments when I start feeling the size of a house, that he likes to clean more than I do, for the internet and for lots of movement from my baby.

rested not restless gratitude

netflix and their relatively quick delivery time.

my skin feeling so good after 1.5 hours at the kabuki yesterday.

time in the afternoon to cook - which i haven't done in ages - save pureeing
foods!

that i can almost eat anything i want...almost (still no tree bark or biscotti ;)

that the levi struass store will let me return the jeans i bought because they shrunk in length
(and i was told they wouldn't) and i cannot wear them anymore.

going to the kabuki hot springs (http://www.kabukisprings.com/content/2/) for some
wendy-time and to sweat that fuckin' guy outta my system.

actually sleeping in.

a fantastic financial planner who has done right by me for over 10 years.

feeling okay, all around, which somehow surprises me

lurker here peeking out with gratitude

I'm grateful that I have friends that are in sync with me.

I'm grateful for projects that my bf and I can do together so we can learn new things about each other.

I'm grateful for specialists who can do the work for me.

I'm grateful that I'm not so attached to the savings that drain for the specialists, because I know it's work that needs to be done and the funds will somehow eventually replenish.

I'm grateful to be posting today.

I am grateful the Fillmore gives reserved tables to pregnant ladies.

I'm grateful that my honey waits up for me when I come home late. And that he likes to clean more than I do. And for many other traits that I won't mention right now.

I'm grateful for things finding their places easily and for having much more than I need. Time to start getting rid of even more stuff.

I'm grateful again for the economics of Freecycle. I got a free electric breast pump this week and the pickup was about 2 minutes from my new house!

I'm grateful that I had the parents I had. We had our own problems but I am always reminded how special they were and that they were great parents regardless. They did not try to live thier lives through me which cut out a whole layer of pressure and weirdness that lots of people have to deal with. Maybe it's because they were older and had already done lots of living before I came along. Or maybe it's because they kept up their own interests and lives even when they had a kid. Or maybe they were just cool like that. Whatever it was, I am grateful.

new blog on the dash

I have tons to be grateful for
First-I am so grateful to have a new blog on my dashboard-and for it to be daily gratitudinals!

I am grateful that I can blog while I watch my sleeping kids in the car from the computer-else I'd never get to blog this week.

I am grateful that my kids love to tell me they love me and give me lots of kisses!

I am grateful that I get to be off on a friday with the boys even if that means going food shopping, winter coat for the kids shopping, and having to work on sat.

I am grateful that the garbage men came and did not wake up the kids sleeping in the car.

I am also supremely grateful for being able to be part of daily gratitudinals. It is nice to remember that I have a lot to be grateful for!

yo homies

  • I am grateful that my move is now complete! Oh my f**king God what a pain in the arse.
  • I am grateful I am getting tired after being awake for a couple of hours figuring out my email contacts.
  • I am grateful for the peaceful seas, the mist, the company and the full circle feeling when I scattered my parents ashes yesterday. It was a cleansing, freeing and magical experience.
  • I am grateful that the boat captain found my Venus of Willendorf pipe in the bottom of my dad's urn! how embarassing...
  • I am grateful for another voice requesting access to gratitudinals.

Graditude

I am grateful for a commute which takes me through pastoral horse farms and trees glowing in oranges, yellows and reds

I am grateful for gratitudinals - even when i don't post I read and I am grounded while at work - it provides perspective and belief in the strength of many women

I am grateful that my Baby Blu was a great addition to the family and not like those horrendous dogs across the street waking everyone up with their continuous barking!

I am grateful for the opportunities to connect and find pleasure in the company of my own family

For inspiration, no matter where it is derived, that action may follow....

today I am grateful for:

a partner I love
having time to plan for my baby in an unhurried way
having a support system around me and optimism that I will add to this in my new location
being almost done with moving
synchronistic emails that seem to address whatever issue I am dealing with

synchronicity
craigslist
every moment without pain or numbness - if only it was comfortably numb - I now understand the irony of that phrase
swedish technology - how did I ever live without it?
that's it for now

Wednesday, October 17, 2007

today I am grateful for:

  • crisp $100 dollar bills - not as fufilling as my bed, which I already miss very much, but I'm sure I can remedy this.
  • every person who follows up their words with actions - do what you say you will do and don't waste my time with the rest
  • dark morning downpours!
  • every moment that my hand is not numb
  • not getting cellulite or varicose veins like those ladies they talk about in pregnancy books - knock on wood
  • change?

Tuesday, October 16, 2007

grateful for:

  • plastic sushi freecycled to 4 year old Japanese girl
  • easy times with big companies - hopefully they will carry through my requests correctly
  • my bed - I wish I could cuddle up in it right now but it's fixed to sell
  • other people's excitement
  • being healthy

for the environment...

I'm grateful for...

  • rain
  • people following their passions and making grand comebacks, i.e. Al Gore. He is a glowing example of what can be achieved in the wake of failure.
  • SF & CA policies on the environment
  • having alternative ways to recycle - rather than throwing good stuff into the landfill, post it on freecycle - amazing what people will take!
  • having what I need and working towards consuming only what I need and eliminating wasteful practices

More vs. Waiting

I am grateful for the email I received this morning reminding me that MORE is not better and sometimes it is more appropriate to LISTEN and be grateful.

I am 10,000 times grateful for maternity health coverage that is better than my regular coverage and better than any I could pay for myself or through work. I am grateful for feeling so well taken care of through out this time.

I am grateful for email and the amazing web of the internet. If Al Gore really invented the internet (along with my father) then he should be elected king of the universe! :-) I want to name my baby after him...

I am grateful that I am moving and I am grateful for help with packing and carrying boxes. Interesting to be in this transitional space where everything is disjointed and split between here and there - it is motivating me to go faster but my body won't let me.

I am grateful for the soft October light as we go into winter. The air is crisp but gentle and the colors in thy sky are subtle and brilliant, the balance is perfect and it's all punctuated by Samhain/Halloween - there is nothing like October.

blogging for the environment on Oct. 15...

"October 15, a week from today, is Blog Action Day, for blogger.com and the theme this year is the environment. If you have a blog and want to join in, all you have to do is use that day to post something related to the environment, in whatever way, shape, or form you prefer. You can pick an environmental issue that has meaning for you and let us know why it's important. Organize a beach or neighborhood cleanup and tell us about it. If you're into fiction writing, give us a story with an environmental theme. Have a podcast, videoblog, or photoblog? Join the fun! The idea here is to have a mass effect on public awareness by sharing as many ideas in as many ways as possible."

Any posters to gratitudinals interested and willing to commit to posting about the environment on Oct. 15? Or have any other ideas on how to participate? If so, leave a comment.
today I am grateful for:

my spiritual teachers
rain
letting go
intuition and following it
knowing what's mine and focusing on that
sacred time for me

wishing...

wishing you a very happy birthday casey.
and, hoping your wishes come true, today and beyond!

closeness

today I am grateful for:

  • craigslist & freecycle! freecycle is the coolest thing since sliced bread...whatever.
  • my new bed! now I have two of the best beds in the world and if anyone sleeps over at my new home, they will get to experience the awesomeness of Swedish technology! and I will no longer be uncomfortable - yippee!
  • my awesome darling baby-daddy
  • being in a room full of pregnant women doing yoga! a male friend asked me if I feel bonded to every pregnant woman I see today - he's Jamaican and said he feels an instant bond with other Jamaicans. Unfortunately, there are a lot of skinny bitches out there who are pregnant. It's not like an instant earth-mother/cool pill or something. Marina chicks are still Marina chicks, preggo or not.
  • expiration dates
  • getting rid of stuff
  • George Clooney on David Letterman - he's so cute!

Thursday, October 4, 2007

Today I'm grateful for:

  • more free baby stuff
  • everything falling into place
  • friends who invite me to do cool things
  • my old journals
  • exercise

differences

Today I am grateful that everyone is different and that one person's reality has no bearing on what another may experience - unless they happen to be your mother!

Yesterday, I took this glucose test and had heard it was absolutely disgusting and had made numerous people barf in response to the drink. It was written about extensively on bulletin boards and people gave me advice on which syrupy liquid to drink to make it better. I was dreading it. I got there, chose my poison and it was like drinking a really sweet coke. I left wondering why the hell this is such a big deal for so many people. For me it was a treat to get so much sugar in one shot! I won't even start talking about labor stories...I'm glad we are all different.

I am grateful for my life the way it is.

I am grateful for things that are easy.

I am grateful for my spiritual tools and practices.

I am grateful for my trip to Bolivia & Peru.

I am grateful for opportunities and life lessons.

  • Today I am appreciating all forms of patience; my ability to be patient and also when others are patient with me.
  • I am grateful for having space to take care of myself, for learning how to best take care of myself and grateful for people who listen and give me freedom to be me.
  • I am grateful for trust that everything will be okay.
  • I am grateful that things change. I appreciate the way things are now with the knowledge that everything may be different tomorrow and that will be okay.
  • I appreciate today and am grateful for everything that happened.
  • I am grateful my toilet has been fixed.
  • I am grateful for blissed out toes.
